The Original Oyster House opened in 1983 with 60 seats and 10 employees. One of the oldest shopping areas in Gulf Shores, the Original Oyster House Boardwalk [once named "Bayou Village"] was built in the early to mid-seventies. The building that houses Matt's Ice Cream, was originally a hospital in Fort Morgan in 1898. By the mid-twenties the population in Fort Morgan had dwindled so the building was floated up the Bayou, set up on Cypress stumps and served bootleggers for a time. It became home of the Merchants Association, the precursor to the Chamber of Commerce. Today there's a variety of shops and eateries including Gulf Shores famous Original Oyster House which celebrated its 40th Anniversary. Celebrate with us with this limited edition Anniversary Tee.
